Why Buy A Home In Old Torrance Instead of Rent?

February 18, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

One of the many questions potential buyers ask is why they should buy when generally renting is less expensive.  There are a number ofCraftsman homes in Torrance reasons although it still may not be the best fit for you.  Everyone is different but in terms of long term planning it’s almost always better to own than rent.

Here are just a few of the reasons:

Smart Investment
When you invest in a home, it offers the possibility for appreciation in value. The equity becomes yours when you’re still paying off your mortgage. You even get to live in it while your investment matures.

Tax Advantages
Since both mortgage interest and property taxes are tax deductible, homeownership can save you significant amounts of money every year.

Planned Housing Costs
You decide how much you spend on your home, including repairs and improvements. Unlike renters, homeowners with a fixed-rate loan can lock in their monthly housing costs.

Improvements to Your Taste
You can choose which improvements to make your own property, such as a deck, kitchen remodel, or new paint, instead of needing permission from your landlord.

If you have more questions about making the decision to buy a home, please feel free to call or email.

Current Homes for Sale in West Torrance – Neighborhood Spotlight

January 27, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

While Old Torrance is a great place to call home, it’s far from the only wonderful neighborhood in Torrance. Here’s what Torrance real estate specialist Keith Kyle with Vista Sothby’s International has to say.

West Torrance is the neighborhood that sits just east of Redondo Beach and has a similar “beach close” feel.  It enjoys that same beach weather so it never seems to be too hot nor too cold.  The schools are fantastic and it’s centrally located to just about everything.
West Torrance has it all from tree lined streets with reasonable sized homes to great schools, proximity to the beach, local shopping areas such as the South Bay Galleria and the Del Amo Mall, plenty of parks, and a real neighborhood feel. Bordered by 190th St to the north, Torrance Blvd to the South, Hawthorne Blvd to the East and Redondo Beach to the west, West Torrance still lies close enough to the beach to enjoy ocean breezes and milder temperatures. What makes the areas of West Torrance and Southwood so unique is that almost all homes in both areas are within walking distance to the elementary schools, middle and high school as well as several great parks and shopping areas. The area has a nice “feel” to it and unlike much of the South Bay, most homes are still close to the original size on relatively large lots so the neighborhood does not look or feel overbuilt.

Homes Around Torrance – Hollywood Riviera Real Estate

January 17, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

One of Torrance’s great neighborhoods is the Hollywood Riviera along the coast as you head up onto the Palos Verdes Peninsula.  There are countless reasones this is such a spectacular place to call home but here are just a few:  proximity to the beach, hilly topography meaning many of the homes have incredible views, hillside overlay restrictions limiting construction which preserves views, breezes and light, reasonable sized houses keeping the area from getting overbuilt, and a great community feel centered arount the Riviera Village shopping area.  There is even an oceanfront street called Paseo De La Playa with some of the most impressive homes in all of the South Bay.  Click any link below to learn more about this terrific neighborhood.

Homes for Sale in the Old Torrance Neighborhood of Torrance CA

Why Do People Live here?

Old Torrance has a look and feel unlike anything else in the South Bay.  It’s like stepping back in time with wide tree lined streets and an abundance of historic craftsman homes.  The area has a real community feel and the revitalized downtown area is very charming with a hip but old school feel.  The area is also home to some large corporations such as Honda which makes for a vibrant employment area.

What’s the Neighborhood Like?

Many of the homes in the area are historic, and the people that live there like that nostalgic charm.  Many homes were built in the 20’s and 30’s and most were just bungalows at the time.  There are occassionaly really special homes for sale like the craftsman home we recently sold at 1323 Cota which was once owned by the Torrance family and sat on an incredible 10,000+ foot lot.  Not all homes in the area are historic and there are some post WWII tract type homes as well as lots in which the homes were knocked down at some point to make way for new homes or townhomes.  There are also some larger townhome or condo complexes in the areas as well.  In general driving down these fantastic streets is like going back in time.

What’s Going on Nearby the Old Town Torrance Neighborhood?

The highlight of the area is the downtown area. As with the rest of the neighborhood it has a real historic feel with old, but remodeled brick buildings reminiscent of main street America.  There has been a real revitalization of the area with an influx of some great restaurants and breweries.  Some of our favorites are Local Kitchen, Strand Brewing and Depot Restaurant.

What Schools will the Kids Attend?

Homes in Old Torrance attend the award winning Torrance Unified School District.  TUSD consists of 17 elementary, 8 middle, 4 high schools and 1 continuation and 1 alternative high school.  Most of the Old Torrance area attends Fern Elementary or Torrance Elementary, Madrona Middle School, and Torrance High School.
